Peli™ cases: Air or Protector?

Start with the equipment you carry and how you transport it. The Air range focuses on reducing weight. The Protector range offers classic rugged cases in many formats. The right choice depends on internal dimensions, the interior, the complete kit's weight and your working routine.

Construction and weight: compare individual models

Peli Air construction uses the manufacturer's HPX²™ polymer blend to reduce weight. The reference 1510 Protector specification lists a polypropylene body. Latches and case layouts vary by model. Check the exact version and generation rather than assuming every case in a range has identical construction details.

These manufacturer reference figures exclude the equipment you will carry:

Model Internal dimensions, L × W × D External dimensions Empty weight Weight with foam
1535 Air 51.8 × 28.4 × 18.3 cm 55.8 × 35.5 × 22.8 cm 3.94 kg 4.53 kg
1510 Protector 50.2 × 27.9 × 19.3 cm 55.9 × 35.1 × 22.9 cm 5.44 kg 6.17 kg
1200 Protector 23.6 × 18.1 × 10.5 cm 27.1 × 24.8 × 12.3 cm 1.20 kg 1.30 kg

The 1535 and 1510 have similar external formats but different internal shapes. On these figures, the empty 1535 is 1.50 kg lighter. This compares two models; it does not establish the same percentage saving across the whole Air range. The much smaller 1200 illustrates a compact service or instrument kit. Its weight is not a fair basis for comparing ranges of different sizes. [1] [2] [3] [4]

When should you consider Air or Protector?

Consider Air when you frequently carry the kit by hand, work between locations or count every kilogram against a baggage allowance. For a travelling camera or instrument kit, explore the Peli 1535 Air with wheels. Confirm that the equipment fits after allowing for the interior.

Consider Protector when you need a particular format for field equipment, tools or a standardised working kit. The Peli 1200 Protector is a useful starting point for a small instrument and accessories. For larger formats, compare the measurements in the Protector collection.

Weight alone does not determine protection. Compare the exact model's published rating, equipment load, working conditions and cushioning layout. A larger case is not automatically suitable for heavier or more sensitive equipment.

Foam, padded dividers or TrekPak?

Shaped foam can suit a fixed kit. Padded dividers make layout changes easier. TrekPak™ uses cut-to-size divider panels and connecting pins. Interior availability depends on the exact model and version ordered. [5]

Online 1535 Air configurations include foam, no foam, padded dividers and TrekPak. The Peli 1535 Air Hybrid configuration is available on request. Contact us for pricing and lead time. Check each online colour and interior combination in the product selector. Hybrid is not an additional online variant with an established price or delivery date.

The current 1200 listing offers foam and no-foam versions. Do not apply the 1535 interior list to the 1200 without a separate compatibility check.

Cabin baggage: external measurements and complete kit weight

A carry-on label is not universal airline approval. Before travelling, check the specific airline, fare and route, including external measurements with wheels and handles and the permitted weight. The case, interior and equipment all contribute to the total.

For example, where a rule permits a maximum length of 55 cm, a 55.8 cm case should not be assumed acceptable without checking. Rules and available space can differ by flight. The manufacturer expressly advises checking with your carrier. [1] [2]

B2B: choosing cases for several identical kits

For a team purchase, prepare the equipment dimensions and weight, number of kits, proposed layout, transport method and required date. Include projecting connectors and delicate parts when measuring. Custom interiors, pricing and the final specification require an individual quotation.

Compare the Air range, select an available online configuration or request a B2B quote for help with selection and quantities.

Frequently asked questions

Is Air always the better travel choice?

It is useful when reducing weight matters, but the equipment and airline limits must fit first. The selected interior also changes weight and usable space.

Are the 1535 Air and 1510 Protector identical inside?

No. Their external formats are similar, but the reference 1510 is deeper, while the 1535 is slightly longer and wider internally. Check all three measurements and the equipment layout.

Should I replace a 1200 with a travelling 1535?

They serve different sizes of kit. The 1200 may suit a small fixed set; the 1535 offers more room and wheels. Extra volume only helps when you need it.

Can I buy a 1535 Hybrid through the webshop selector?

Hybrid is available on request. Submit the required configuration through the quotation form for individual pricing and lead time. Use the existing online variants for webshop purchases.
